Love Where You Live

Wes Wilkinson from Laois County Council and Gerry from Portlaoise Tidy Towns examining the swift boxes that have been installed in the new library on Main Street.

Swifts have traditionally bred in the eaves and gable of our buildings. However, as older buildings are renovated, insulated and repaired, these nesting sites have gradually been lost – contributing to the overall decline in the swift population.

Swift boxes are nesting boxes that are can be incorporated into the side of modern buildings to provide them with a safe nesting site.
